This time, we will try to migrate our centreon solution from our previous Ubuntu 8.04 LTS to our new Ubuntu 10.04 LTS edition (It should work for other version too).
To do that, you should have the same centreon version on both side (for database scheme compatibility).
I use the same IP address for my both servers (it’s for a complete replacement)

Backup your Ubuntu 8.04 LTS solution

sudo service nagios stop
sudo service centstorage stop
sudo /usr/local/centreon/cron/purgeCentstorage
sudo service centcore stop
sudo service ndo2db stop

If you are planning to monitor Windows servers, it’s highly advised to install NRPE module. On windows side, I generaly use NSCLIENT++ for host check.

You’ll be able to execute remote commands on hosts.

Installation process:

cd /usr/local/src
sudo wget
sudo tar xzfv nrpe-2.12.tar.gz
cd nrpe-2.12/
sudo ./configure --with-ssl=/usr/bin/openssl --with-ssl-lib=/usr/lib
sudo make all
sudo make install-plugin

I’ve corrected the rsyslog installation process concerning the xconsole section.
In fact as we did not use X server, we did not need this part.

Here is the diff:

Edit 50-default.conf to correct the path

sudo nano /etc/rsyslog.d/50-default.conf

At the end of the file, comment the xconsole section:

# news.err;\
# *.=debug;*.=info;\
# *.=notice;*.=warn |/dev/xconsole

Restart rsyslog:

sudo service rsyslog restart

The installation process is little sipmler with Ubuntu 10.04 LTS as rsyslog is already integrated.
You’ll notice that the installation process is almost the same as the old one.

You will need Centreon-Syslog installation files. Please go to and register. You’ll be able to download sources after that:

Download the stable release (when I wrote, it was the 1.2.1 version). After getting the frontend and server files, transfer them on your server with WinSCP or any other tools you like.

WinSCP is available as setup or portable version Continue reading »

I’ve corrected my two previous posts to correct ndoutils high IOwait cpu usage:

Ubuntu Server 10.04 LTS with Nagios 3.2.1 and Centreon 2.1.6
Ubuntu 8.04 LTS Nagios 3.2.1 Install (Part 1)

If you have already installed your solution, proceed as follow:

cd /usr/local/src
sudo wget -r -k -np
sudo /etc/init.d/ndo2db stop

Check if you have no more ndo2db instances:

ps -A|grep ndo2db

Hi, you have probably noticed that the new LTS release is out 🙂
So I decided to update the intallation process. You’ll probably notice that it didn’t change so much regarding to the 8.04 (in fact a few packages have their name changed, rsyslog natively integrated into the system, and so on)

Before starting the installation process, let define some rules we will follow: I recommend that before you start any installation you define a template for the naming scheme of your monitored machines. I decided to uses this one (but it’s up to you to create your own): 3 first letters for customer-name of the machine-environment. In my case it’s ACT-CENTREON-TEST (ACT for ACTIVLAN, Centreon for my computer and test for the target environment) for the central monitoring machine.
