Hi,

In a previous; post we covered the installation of satellite in LAN. It is usefull if you have to monitor machines from distant sites. Generaly these sites are accessible with your local network or through a VPN but sometimes, the site is far away and is only accessible via internet connection. In most case, it’s located behind a firewall.
We will try to describe how we could set a secured connexion between distant satellite and our central monitoring server using SSH connection.

It will looks like something like that:

satelitte-ssh

Hi, if you have a large number of machines to check, distant sites (or for any other reason), it may be interresting to use distributed architecture.
For that, we will use satelittes.

You could find further explanations on Centreon offitial wiki here:

http://en.doc.centreon.com/DistributedArchitecture

The installation process is simpler (and faster) as you’ll only need the nagios part.

Hi,

Merethis has released Centreon 2.1.8 (I’ve missed the 2.1.7 :))
The update is very simple:

cd /usr/local/src
sudo wget http://download.centreon.com/index.php?id=140
sudo tar -xzf centreon-2.1.8.tar.gz
cd centreon-2.1.8
sudo ./install.sh -u /etc/centreon

After accepting the license, simply answer yes to all the questions you’ll see.

When finished, connect to the web interface and follow the “NEXT, NEXT, NEXT” steps.
Your database will be updated twice (from 2.1.6 to 2.1.7 then from 2.1.7 to 2.1.8).

It’s finished.

This time, we will try to migrate our centreon solution from our previous Ubuntu 8.04 LTS to our new Ubuntu 10.04 LTS edition (It should work for other version too).
To do that, you should have the same centreon version on both side (for database scheme compatibility).
I use the same IP address for my both servers (it’s for a complete replacement)

Backup your Ubuntu 8.04 LTS solution

sudo service nagios stop
sudo service centstorage stop
sudo /usr/local/centreon/cron/purgeCentstorage
sudo service centcore stop
sudo service ndo2db stop

If you are planning to monitor Windows servers, it’s highly advised to install NRPE module. On windows side, I generaly use NSCLIENT++ for host check.

You’ll be able to execute remote commands on hosts.

Installation process:

cd /usr/local/src
sudo wget http://downloads.sourceforge.net/project/nagios/nrpe-2.x/nrpe-2.12/nrpe-2.12.tar.gz?use_mirror=kent
sudo tar xzfv nrpe-2.12.tar.gz
cd nrpe-2.12/
sudo ./configure --with-ssl=/usr/bin/openssl --with-ssl-lib=/usr/lib
sudo make all
sudo make install-plugin
